Steel roof tiles or plastic roof tiles, this was a one of the many questions that challenged the designers of the world’s first lightweight roof tile – the Decra tile.
Both steel and plastic offered unique design opportunities that could be used to provide a new roofing solution, but after careful consideration the choice was obvious for Decra’s product development team, steel roof tiles offered significant performance advantages over plastic roof tiles and ultimately provided the best performance and offer the most cost effective roof solution.
Since their introduction in the early 1960’s, Decra stone coated steel tiles have been proven on all types of building, in refurbishment and new build projects and in all climates across the world, from the extreme heat, humidity and salt laden environment of areas such as the Maldives to sub zero temperatures and high winds of Canada.
Decra lightweight roof tiles are now by far the most popular in the world, manufactured in four continents and sold and installed in over 70 countries. Over 100 million square metres of tiles have now been installed.
The steel tile concept has been proved just as popular in the UK and Ireland installations of the Decra roof system now exceeds twelve million square metres (the equivalent of around 200,000 average terraced houses)
No other manufacturer of lightweight steel roof tiles or plastic roof tiles has a comparable track record of delivering lightweight roof solutions.
