Guide To Estimating A Hip & Valley Roof

Estimating tiles for a hipped and valley roof (see above for a working example).
1. Calculate number of tiles along overall length of roof from the appropriate tile coverage table.
2. Calculate number of courses up rafter from the appropriate coverage table.
3. Multiply tiles (a) by tiles (b) x number of slopes.
4. Add to the result 1.32 tiles (tile wastage for cutting to hips or valleys) for every linear metre of hip.
5. If using Decra Stratos or Oberon tile profiles additional wastage will be required at the gables to break bond on tiles. Calculate the total linear meterage of gable/verge and abutment wall and then multiply the result by the wastage factor of 0.4 tiles per each metre.
NB. Ensure all fractional tiles are counted as whole tiles from tile coverage table.

Example: Decra Classic, Decra Plus Tile & Decra Elegance
(a) x (b) x 2 slopes + wastage (w) = Total Tiles
8 x 12 x 2 slopes =192
3 x 8 x 2 slopes = 48
30m x hip & valley x 1.32 wastage = 40
192 + 48 + 40 = 280 Total Tiles

Example: Decra Oberon & Decra Stratos
(a) x (b) x 2 slopes + wastage (w) = Total Tiles
8 x 14 x 2 slopes =224
3 x 9 x 2 slopes = 54
30m x hip & valley x 1.32 wastage = 40
224 + 54 + 40 = 318 Total Tiles

Estimating tile batten and nails.
For Classic and Elegance Tiles - allow 2.7m of batten per m2 plus wastage.
For Plus Tiles - allow 2.72m of batten per m2 plus wastage.
For Stratos Tiles - allow 3.13m of batten per m2 plus wastage.
For Oberon Tiles - allow 6.25m of batten per m2 plus wastage.

For Classic, Parctile, Plus Tile, Stratos & Elegance Tiles - allow 6kg pack of Decra fixing nails per every 420 tiles.
For Oberon Tiles - allow 6kg pack of Decra fixing nails per every 300 tiles
